week on Radio Free London for
November 25th, 2024
The Sunday Service from St.
James Westminster, a record hop cabaret and another dive into Radio
Western's Tech Room Vinyl!
Details:
It's week eight or two months since I've
returned to do live all night shows in the studios of Radio Western
after four and a half years of producing Radio Free London at home. I'm
beginning to feel that 'I've got this' confidence coming back as I've
been getting used to pushing all the buttons and turning all the dials
again.
I'll open the show with the November 24th
Sunday Service from St. James Westminster Anglican Church in Wortley
Village.
Vicar Ann Webber and Father Michael Bruce presided over the Service.
Stephen Holowitz played the pipe organ accompanied by soloist Duncan
Sizeland and the St. James Westminster Choir.
Next up is a new field recording from a
dinner cabaret held to honour St. James Westminster's Record Hop
Committee who's ministry was to raise money for the Church by holding
dances in the Parish Hall gym in the 1960s. They even raised enough to
commission the making of a small stained glass window in the Church.
I told you Anglicans are cool!
Stephen Holowitz played the Parish Hall's grand piano, Duncan Sizeland
played guitar and sang as well as Jack Sizeland, Katy Clark and Paul
Grambo who performing songs that just might've been played in that gym
sixty years ago.
As I've been doing since I came back, I'll
continue with my reacquaintance with the ancient record library which
is tucked away in the radio station's tech room... but I know how to
get in there!
