The Mothers' Day Sunday Service from St.
James Westminster, The London Community Orchestra, a Children's Hospital
Benefit Concert and reprising the DeRoK n
Roll Radio Road Show!
Details:
Last Sunday was Mothers' Day and St. James
had a special Service to commemorate it. Instead of a homily (sermon)
the clergy and musicians did a performance of words and music to honour
mothers, women and girls.
At the end of the Service, Archdeacon Ken had some flowers to give
away. There was far fewer flowers than mothers in the congregation so
he had to come up with a fair method to distribute them. Tune in to
find out what he came up with but I'll give you a hint, who says Church
can't be fun!
It's quite a mixed bag for the remainder
of the show
First up is a brand new field recording of
The London Community Orchestra, the second time that I've had the
chance to do so. The first time, copyright issues prevented me from
playing two of the three pieces they played (a composer must be dead
for a century before their compositions become public domain) but at
least I got to air one and it was a good test run for a complex
recording.
This time, both pieces were public domain and I can air the whole event.
You'll hear a violoncello concerto by Dvořák with soloist Patrick
Thériault on the cello and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, yes indeed
based on ol' Bill Shakespeare's play!
Next up you'll hear a Children's Hospital
benefit concert recorded in November of 2016. This is a fine example of
how the
music community donates their time and talent to a good cause.
Finally, I'll play you an almost complete
DeRoK n Roll Radio Road Show hosted by DeRoK Madigan on 94.9 FM
Radio Western
that I recorded in 2017.
DeRok was the host of The London
Music Club's Friday evening acoustic
open stage in 2014 when I met him. After I'd recorded a few of them, I
had DeRoK as a guest on my show to play music and promote the open
stage. He liked the experience so much that he took training at the
radio station (some by me) and ended up with the 12 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Monday morning slot before my show. We were a great 6 hours of radio
with him playing dozens of musicians and hundreds of songs from the
acoustic open stage and me following up playing complete events on my
show.
So, for the rest of the show, I'll turn the airwaves over to DeRoK!
